Year filter controls

Overview

The Year Filter is a global date range control that affects all data views (Map, Table, and Chart) simultaneously. It generates ArcGIS SQL WHERE clauses that scope queries to your selected time period.

How to Use

  1. Find the Year Filter Bar at the top of the data panel
  2. Set the From year using the left dropdown
  3. Set the To year using the right dropdown
  4. All data views update automatically
The default range is 2018 to the current year.

What It Affects

ViewHow It Filters
MapOnly shows data points within the selected year range
TableFilters table records to the selected date range
ChartRestricts chart data to the selected time period

Use Cases

Set the range to 2018-2019 to see pre-pandemic baselines, then switch to 2020-2021 to compare.
Set both From and To to the current year to see only recent data.
Use the full range (2018-present) to see long-term trends in charts.
Combine the year filter with map district overlays to see how neighborhoods change over time.

AI Integration

The AI assistant can set the year filter for you. For example, asking “Show me 311 requests from 2022” will automatically adjust the year range.
